Why Does My Pool Need Chemicals?
Aloha, Fort Worth Pool Enthusiasts!
Chemical treatment helps keep your pool sanitized and well-balanced. That is good for the safety of all swimmers, and the longevity of your pool and pool equipment. Here are some of the main reasons we treat your pool with chemicals. Aloha Pool Service has the experience and skills to manage the correct chemistry and provide pool service to Fort Worth pool owners.
Water Sanitation
The primary reason chemicals are added to pools is to sanitize the water and kill harmful microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, and algae. These microorganisms can thrive in pool water and pose health risks to swimmers. Common pool sanitizers include chlorine and bromine.
Water Balance
Pool water must maintain a specific balance of pH (acidity/alkalinity) and alkalinity to ensure swimmers' comfort and prevent damage to pool equipment and surfaces. Chemicals like pH adjusters (such as muriatic acid or soda ash) and alkalinity increasers help maintain this balance.
Algae Control
Algae are microscopic organisms that can multiply quickly in pool water, leading to green or cloudy water and slippery pool surfaces. Algaecides are chemicals used to prevent and control algae growth.
Calcium Hardness
Proper calcium hardness levels help prevent corrosion of pool equipment and surface damage. Calcium hardness increasers are used when levels are too low, while water dilution or the addition of a calcium reducer can be used when levels are too high.
Stain prevention
Some areas with high mineral content in the water can lead to staining on pool surfaces. Sequestrants or stain prevention chemicals are used to keep these minerals in suspension, preventing them from forming stains.
Shock Treatment
Periodic "shocking" or superchlorination of the pool is done to rapidly raise the chlorine levels to kill off any contaminants that may have built up in the water, such as sweat and sunscreen.
